Wham-Bam-Tram Ram Counter Released
as Macintosh Dashboard Widget

Wham-Bam-Tram Ram Counter
widget for Mac (snapshot)

June 17, 2005 - Today, Action America released a Macintosh Dashboard Widget version of our famous (cited on CNN and over 35 newspapers) Wham-Bam-Tram Ram Counter. This widget will allow Macintosh users, running OS-X 10.4 "Tiger" to have instant access to the current crash total, right on their Dashboard, without having to open their browser and surf to this site.

Tiger users, just click on the image to the left, to download the widget (zip 423kb).

For the un-enlightened and Mac users who have not upgraded to Tiger yet, the Dashboard is a feature that is exclusive to the new Macintosh OS-X 10.4 "Tiger" operating system that gives users instant, one-key access to a wide and infinitely customizable variety of useful tools and if you choose, some tools of questionable value. It is a sort of pseudo desktop that is home to widgets: mini-applications that let you perform common tasks and provide you with fast access to information.

Some of the more popular widgets include, real-time weather, stock tickers, flight information, package tracking, language translation and unit conversion. One widget that Mac users in a mixed PC/Mac environment seem to really like, does nothing more than show off their uptime, for their PC handicapped coworkers to envy. And now, The Wham-Bam-Tram Ram Counter widget is added to the growing list of available widgets, now numbering well over 600, almost all of which are free.

The Wham-Bam-Tram Ram Counter widget will access crash data on this site whenever the Dashboard is opened and once every 10 minutes, while the Dashboard remains open. When running, it takes up very little overhead, since it only pulls down a 2-digit number (soon to be 3-digit), representing the Wham-Bam-Tram crash total. Even so, as a courtesy, to save even that little bit of processor time, it remains idle, when the Dashboard is hidden.

Macintosh users may download the Wham-Bam-Tram Ram Counter widget here or click on the image of the widget, above. The file is a 423kb zip file. Just unzip it and place it in your Widgets folder. That's all there is to it. It will be instantly available.

We hope that our Macintosh using visitors will enjoy this widget. Sorry, PC users. You will just have to wait, since the Microsoft version of Dashboard will not be available for at least 18 more months... that's assuming that they can get it working at all, before the next release of Windoze.

This is the second widget from Action America. The first, was our Gun Self-Defense Counter widget. Between this site, several widget-specific download sites and a couple of gun rights sites, that widget has been downloaded more than 1000 times. (More...)

We also have a UNIX tool available that will add Houston or any other city, to Apple's World Clock widget. It requires that you log into the UNIX terminal mode and execute a shell script. Even though the script is copiously documented, you should feel comfortable operating in the UNIX terminal environment, if you intend to use this tool. Also, soon to be released, is a UNIX tool that will add Cartman and Mr. Hankey to your Hula Girl widget options. Please use our Feedback Form, if you are interested in either of these UNIX tools.
